I don't like those virtual cameras that companies like to install on your machine without your permission because they bury deep down into the extensions area and it just annoys me. I just think about them being there. And so, uh, in Golden Gate you have a lot more control over that and Um, when the firmware update completed, because I had previously removed the built-in camera extension, it started to behave oddly. So I rebooted the machine after messing with it, but now I'm looking up at it and it's currently not looking down.

And so what concerns me about that And it does seem to be the case, is that it's suddenly not on. So now it seems to be sort of losing itself. Ah. So we may have to... And this is unfortunately what I am left with. Um, I have preview mode turned on, so I am currently just making some adjustments here. Tell me about your latest mods. Ooh, you said the 26.3 update. came out. This is going to sound probably a little silly, but I don't think I knew that Minecraft was still getting updates. When you say updates, is it What was my question? Is it content updates? Because that's very exciting. It still regularly receives those. Says Wilderness Bound. They added the dappled forest with poplar trees and a bunch of other blocks like wool and concrete stairs and slabs. That's cool.

What I've been excited to show you all is I found an Aleene's sample kit so that I can try Different versions of Aleene's Tacky Glue. There's Quick Dry Tacky Glue, there's the original Tacky Glue, and there's what I've been told is probably what I'm going to enjoy, which is Fast Grab Tacky Glue. Because you may remember— see, this looks good, this camera looks good. Um, you may remember that I've been using the clear gel tacky glue, but we're going to try these. I knew you'd appreciate it, Burke.

And I did expect a few tacky jokes, so I, I, I'm happy. I'm pleased that I, uh, got what I wanted out of it. Um, all right. And plus, the camera seems to be, uh, playing ball now. Knock on wood. The camera Well, I don't know if it's losing its connection or what, but when it does, then it resets its, um, view, which then results in me having to— What is, uh, Claude working on for you at the moment? Isn't this fun? You know what, I'm gonna switch back to this, and what I will do Is, um, switch to my other Insta360 because it wasn't giving me issues. So I'm actually going to go to the pre-show view for just a minute, and I'll be back with you all shortly. And in no time at all, this camera works. I love it. In fact, it has more— I thought it was, uh, I, I, I sort of, I think, underestimated it because it has more, um, more options despite being older. It instantly picked up. It's not going to sleep. So even though it's maybe just a tiny bit less crisp, I have to give it credit where credit's due.

For each of the 3 discs on parts page 4, begin by cutting around the black outer rectangles. This doesn't need to be very precise. Then fold— Then fold very precisely along the red center line. Glue the 2 sides together and then cut out the disc. Trim as needed and then use the utility knife to remove the white inner area. Repeat this process for all 3 discs. So we finished up there. And you'll remember that we put together these little, um, bits and bobs.

In fact, let me grab that part as well. Really quickly. I turned on preview mode, as I mentioned, because I was testing with the camera. So I was trying to turn off the camera so y'all didn't see my shorts, because as I mentioned on a few shows, our AC's Broken right now. Um, so, oh well. You caught me in my gym shorts. Um, I mean, it is a calm moment, is it not? Uh, so look at how much we've done. We're very nearly complete, which is quite nice.

And we finished the cap on the back as well. For each of the 3 discs on parts page 4, begin by cutting around the black outer rectangles. We've done that. Then fold very precisely along the red center line. Glue the 2 sides together and then cut out the disc. Trim as needed. Cut out the 4 disc braces and fold all of the tabs with the screws upward. We did that.

Slide the largest disc onto the barrel with the screws towards the top and bottom and push it to the back. We've done that. And we've slid the middle-sized brace on as well. We've done those. The flange needs tabs so we can glue it to the barrel. There are 6 flange braces on parts page 4. Cut these Braces out one at a time, folding each rectangular panel upward and then gluing each larger panel directly over the matching color-coded panel on the flange. When all 6 braces are in place, the flange should resemble Figure 21.

So there we go, that's where we are. Can you tell I'm all over the place with the firmware, uh, stuff not working? Uh, Wow, our, our stream delay is quite a bit. I— do we have, um, control over that? Broken AC would be intolerable here, so it would be worse the more south you go. Um, it's not too terrible. Here. Uh, it's simply because I've been in this room with doors closed and lights on for hours, so there's lots of CO2, as much as there's also the heat. Um, and the AC in this room helps to actually circulate the air, and so we've got the fan, uh, still going. But the AC people are coming next week. To fix it. So I'm excited about that.

But let me actually run another fan cycle. Yeah, it's 80 degrees in the house right now. I'll repeat that, it's 80 degrees in the house. Which is my nightmare. I grew up in Missouri where we've had AC in our homes for ages. 80 degrees Celsius. Celsius? No, no, no, no. Can you imagine? Oh, that's good to know, Burke.

Burke says that there are reports of other Insta360 cameras shutting off as well as failed firmware updates. Okay, so these are all of our little flanges. And they have to go on to here. The only thing I'm confused about is I wonder if I was supposed to— because if you look at this photo, the inside has gray on it as well. 77? I don't like heat. I, I I wish that I could have it 65 at all times, if not below. That's the temperature I prefer. Hmm.

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. I think we messed something up. We being me. Um, in any case, We'll figure this out. I kind of want to see if I can't— No, that's, that's truly fastened. I'll just have to print out— not, not this time, but I will have to print out another one of these and we'll paste it to the inside. But for now, we can put the flanges on. I'm curious, Paul, is that— how did you arrive at that temperature? Is it Sort of the temperature that you'd like? Is it, um— Let me ask this.

If there were no limits at all to your choice of temperature, what temperature would you have be around you at all times? And I want to be clear, We're not thinking about the implications of its effect on the climate and anything. No, I just mean that, like, in, in a situation where there is no impact other than you get the temperature that you want, what would the temperature be for you? For me, 72 winter, 74 summer. Nice. I would have it I would have it 65 at all times, um, but I would allow it to drop to 60 while I'm asleep. 60 degrees would be so nice. 60 degrees. I'm using the back of an old iPhone as a means of I always, um, forget that none of the tools that I have have a perfectly straight edge. They all sort of curve, and so they don't make for good folding, um, folding stops.

There's only so much clothing you can take off before you're no longer wearing clothing, but you can keep putting on sort of clothes and blankets and things to warm up. You can also consume foods and beverages to warm up. I suppose you could do that to cool down as well, but— A drafting tool. What are the little teardrop openings? I'm worried about that, Paul.

So, okay, uh, because I was curious If you liked the building part of it, sort of the engineering part of it, the making it look as lifelike as possible part of it. Family crafting. When you married your wife, did you warn that you would need an entire space devoted to Uh, model building, or was it something that came later? Ooh, this spaceship looks great. Oh, model trains are new. You seem so good at it and really involved in it. I, I just assumed you'd been into it for a long time. That's really sweet that it's because of your son that you are so into it. And then for his mom to also be into it is really— I love that. That's really touching.

Did his train obsession come out of the blue? Like, how did you— I'm always curious about that whenever a child shows interest in a thing. Is it a matter of, as a parent, going around and just showing them different things and then seeing, oh, this really lit them up? Or is it a matter of happenstance? Or is it a matter of— I forgot what the third one was— sort of an intentional effort to expose them as much as possible and then let them choose? So sort of experiment. Happenstance being the second one. You happened upon trains and then you saw how much he liked them. Or, and I guess this one doesn't apply with this specific thing, I would imagine that for some parents it's like, I want my child to be into the things that made me happy. Not— and that perhaps comes across sounding Like that's a bad thing. Um, but in this instance, that isn't how I intend for it to be. Simply a neutral statement that some parents do find joy in a thing and want to share that joy with their child, who also brings them joy.

I think the scary thing That I have not personally— I have not personally been impacted by, but have had friends who were impacted by this, was when there's a thing that their parent really likes and they don't care for whatever it happens to be. And it's devast— it becomes to be devastating for the parent. And That, that's rough. Model trains didn't come into the picture until our son loved trains. I had some growing up but never planned to set up anything until his train obsession came along. Um, he watched a lot of Thomas and Friends during COVID while we tried to work. Awesome. Uh, okay, have fun.

Wow. 3 weeks. Good luck. If it's— if there's any— I don't know if it's, uh, you said it's a display at a train show. I don't know if that also means that it's a competition. You know, This, uh, fast grab, I don't— maybe, maybe it's grabbing fast. It's interesting because it's still pretty— like, I expected it to be a little bit more difficult to squeeze out of the tube, and so I think it's catching me off guard a little bit in the sense that it feels... As though it shouldn't be grabby, and I expect it to not be grabby.

But as I'm kind of moving around this piece, I'm noticing that the parts that were placed down, they're pretty well stuck on there. And normally, if I were to do that, it would— they would start sliding. So go Aleene! I have a friend named Eileen. Her name does not have the extra E at the end. I say, I say, sit down, Holly. Ooh. From the side, it's far more impactful because the top still has that horrible non-gray bit Yeah, see, okay, that is the first example of the fast grab that I like because those little pieces would be sliding all over the place normally by now. And it's not so fastened that I can't make adjustments, but fastened enough That adjusting one side does not adjust all of them.

I'm thinking about getting Bob Ross's, um, uh, painting kit at some point and doing that as a crafting corner. And then I will feel that I have truly reached the next crafting level.

I'm excited. Tomorrow I will be talking to Um, The Verge's Victoria Song, she put out a great piece on The Verge about how health age is nonsense. Um, Apple just jumped on board the health age metric and She and I are going to spend some time griping about this multifaceted farce that is health age and how it results in anxiety for people. Misunderstandings, et cetera. It's annoying because it could be sort of what is made up of the measurements for health age could be independently important, but when they are reduced to something As broad as that. It's like forest for the trees, but worse, because you can't see that the forest is on fire because the trees are blocking your view from it. I'm very much looking forward to Media Club on Friday. Paul, are you using any of the, um, Any of the non-Hermes agents like, uh, Meta's Muse, Grokbot, or have you tested them? I'm going to try the quick-dry tacky glue.

Just so we can get in a little test of it as well. I should have asked Christina Warren to join. I didn't. I didn't check in on how the poll was doing until, um, arguably a little too late. And so I didn't— I guess I could still ask her. She and I used to do a show. I think, um, I've mentioned it before, but we did a show on the Jason Snell's network, The Incomparable, called Cartoon Cast. And she and I talked about cartoons, mostly cartoons for, you know, aimed at adults, but cartoons nonetheless, and had a good time.

This is what I was looking for. Okay, this quick dry is very thin, which is interesting. Yeah, and it's definitely quick dry. My goodness, by the time I get it all spread out, there won't be— there won't be any moisture left. It must have a higher alcohol content. If I only got Claude Code Pro and just use it for coding. Position the fin's tabs over the matching panels on the ray gun's body and glue the fin in place. Well, would you look at that? Look at that! There's a perfect place for it to go. And here I thought that was just some decoration up there, and I come to find out that's actually there for us to know where in the world we're supposed to put the fin. Ain't that nice? That's so nice, y'all. I think there's very little oxygen left in this room at this point. Very little oxygen, far too much heat. It's 82 degrees in here, 49% humidity. So at least it ain't too, uh, what's that word, moist.

Now why the heck wasn't I using a brush all along? This is so nice. All right, I feel good about that. Placement is looking good. Wait, I just, I just realized something. If you were going to go as anything for Halloween, Fart Supreme, you could go as Farty Supreme. That's true, Burke. And who knows if I can trust myself to actually clean the brush afterward? Because if I do it right away, it'll be fine since it's a water base. Yeah, but Will he do it? Don't bother cleaning it? Oh, I see.

You're saying it's a glue brush now. There's this guy that I saw on Instagram. And he has a glue log, and it's where he puts his— he squirts some wood glue down onto this glue log, and then he uses it to, um, with a brush, to put wood glue onto his projects. But any remaining wood glue that doesn't get used just sticks to the log. And so he has this Sort of a yellowed log that is 10 years old, the collective glue. And I think that's kind of cool. There's history there. I think we're going to leave it there, folks.

We've placed the blaster on the end. We got a fin on there, and we switched out overhead cameras. Plus, we got to try some new tacky glue, which I'm enjoying. Oh, oh geez. Oh geez. It's much higher, I know. Oh, that's neat. I'll show you.

Where did I put it? Oh, there it is. At GitHub Universe, they would, um, if you knew the right people, you could get a special badge. And, um, I knew the right people. enough that even though we weren't able to go, uh, you know, something— we were busy or whatever, um, they sent me one. And the whole point is that when you're done with this e-ink badge, you hack it. And, uh, so you can see it's got the badge slots at the top, and you can do all sorts of stuff with it. But I turned it into A custom Tamagotchi that has my 2 dogs. And so you can click to give one or both of them love.

You can click to give one or both of them a treat. You can click to let one or both of them nap. The button on the side lets you switch between dogs or choose both. And then home, of course, has like settings and stuff. Um, and then if you have it plugged in, Then it also will do little things automatically, little moments. And so sometimes Mizzy will get all up in Henry's space whenever he's sleeping, which is what she does in real life. She'll walk all over him. Sometimes Henry will just, um, sort of stare at you blankly.

And yeah, so this was made with the help of, uh— Who did I mostly rely on for this? I think at the time it was just Opus, but it may have been Sol.
